A Tribute to Malagueño LXXXIII

In recent years, several names have stood out in the dressage world: Norteño FS from Yeguada Arroyomonte, Charlie Brown from Paraje Yeguas, Jareño from Povedano, and Vencedor JLE from Jose Luis de la Escalera. Historically, we also remember legends like Gumiel from Yeguada Corrales, and Ermitaño III or Vinatero III from Miura. Some of these horses have not only excelled in the arenas but have also become legendary foundation stallions. However, this article—and following his recent retirement—is dedicated specifically to Malagueño.

Malagueño is a bay Pura Raza Española (PRE) stallion standing at 1.65 meters. Bred by Francisco Santiago Ruiz, he is one of the most prominent benchmarks in Spanish dressage. Recognized as a Recommended Young Breeding Stock (Joven Reproductor Recomendado), Malagueño is one of the greatest exponents of modern dressage in Spain. He has been crowned PRE World Dressage Champion at Grand Prix level twice and is an Absolute Champion of Spain.

He is the son of the Elite stallion Joyero XXIV and Malagueña XXXIV, a descendant of the prestigious Dominante XVI. Born in 2010 at Francisco Santiago’s stud farm, he has achieved significant national and international success under the saddle of José Daniel Martín Dockx. Among his most notable achievements are:

  • PRE World Dressage Champion in 2022 and 2023.

  • Absolute Champion of Spain in 2023 at Grand Prix level, achieving scores exceeding 80% in international competitions.

  • Selected to represent Spain at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Malagueño is renowned for his powerful athletic physique, his nobility, an excellent work ethic, and magnificent gaits. His offspring show great sporting promise, inheriting his remarkable athletic ability.
